Teacher Education

Enrich & Empower lives of others... Be a Teacher!

Our beautiful state is regularly acknowledged as being among the highest ranked places to live and work in the nation. With this recognition North Carolina has also become one of the fastest growing states in the country. This steady growth has caused a critical need for teachers across the state. The current need for teachers is not being met; it is estimated that North Carolina must hire 10,000 to 12,000 new teachers each year to keep up with the growing population. There are immediate needs for teachers in all subjects and at all teaching levels; high-need areas include math, science, middle grades and exceptional children.

See statistics regarding the teacher shortage in North Carolina.

To meet this need North Carolina seeks individuals interested in enriching and empowering the lives of others and themselves. Whether you are a recent graduate of a teaching program or perhaps have taught in the past, North Carolina needs you! Even if you do not fit into any of these categories, a teaching career is not limited to these "traditional" teaching professionals. Individuals without education degrees, teacher training and experience, as well as anyone seeking a new career, including retired military professionals, may look to teaching as a new professional challenge-one with rewards no other career will offer.

Financial Assistance for Prospective Teachers

The State of North Carolina provides financial assistance for individuals enrolled in college programs designed to prepare students for careers in teaching and school administration. Some of these programs provide funding in the form of scholarships, which do not have to be paid back. Other programs offer scholarship-loans; students who receive scholarship/loans must repay the debt either by working as a teacher or by repaying the loan amount in cash at an interest rate of 10%.
